Generation 4: 1981-1988

The fourth generation of Monte Carlos marks the end of the rear-wheel drive, full frame Montes...at least up to this point. Although there are similarities between the 3rd and 4th generations, Chevrolet defined the 1981 model as "A completely new generation of Monte Carlo."

This generation saw the return of the Super Sport package which included the distinctive nose and rear spoiler. This aerodynamic treatment helped give Chevrolet numerous racing victories and the Monte Carlo still holds the record for the most NASCAR wins by a single model of vehicle.

The Aerocoupe bodystyle, while only manufactured for two years, added to the Monte's oval-track success by providing an even more slippery aero package. And the Euro-nosed CL package added a very classy look to the traditionally flat nose.
